FAQ'S:

Is there a limit for document shredding?

Yes, 4 boxes.  Please be mindful of this limit, so we can service as many people in the time frame as possible.

If I am not a resident of Blendon Township, can I still come?

Yes, it is open to the public

How does the electronic disposal work?

Blendon Township offers E-waste collection for any electronic device (excluding CRT Monitors/TV's & projection TV's) that are no longer working, out of date, or the owner no longer has use for it. The Electronic Drop-Off bin is in the parking lot of the Government Complex at 6350 Hempstead Road. This bin is always available, not just during the clean up days. If anything does not fit in the bin, you may set it in front of the bin. This bin is not run or emptied by the Township. Please call or text 614-397-4722 for assistance.

Can I dispose of old medications?

Please visit https://www.dea.gov/takebackday for information on drug takeback day.

Do you do the document shredding onsite?

Yes. Please stay in your car so we can keep the line moving. Our crew will assist with collecting the documents out of your car.

Is the clean up rain or shine?

Yes.

What can I donate?

Monetary donations are greatly appreciated.

What can't I put in Blendon Township’s dumpsters?

Generally speaking, you cannot put any type of hazardous materials in our dumpsters, including wet paint, oil (other liquids), asbestos, sealed tanks/drums, electronics (e-waste), tires and some types of furniture. You'll find more information below.

NOTE: Blendon Township employees are NOT able to assist with loading large items into dumpsters.

Can you put a mattress in a dumpster?

Yes you can bring your mattress, however, township staff will not be able to assist. Mattresses do not need to be wrapped in plastic.

If you have unacceptable items to dispose:

Paint, Stains, and Lacquers

You cannot throw paint, paint thinners, lacquers, or wood stains in a dumpster. If you have leftover latex paint that can't be reused or recycled, allow the paint to solidify by pouring it into a box with kitty litter or shredded paper. Once it's hard and dry, toss it in the dumpster or your weekly trash. Empty, dried paint cans can also be thrown out in your curbside trash.

Tires

Because a majority of landfills in the U.S. do not accept tires, you cannot put tires in our dumpster, however, we are accepting tires (no rims) on our Blendon Complex (just not in the dumpsters).

Hazardous Waste

  • No hazardous waste of any kind.
  • No chemicals of any kind.
  • No paint.
  • No fluorescent bulbs.
  • No freezers or refrigerators

No motor oil and other automotive fluids, propane tanks, household cleaners, ink and resins, contaminated soil or absorbents, asbestos, pesticides, and medical waste should never be put in a dumpsters. No fungicides (mold killers) gasoline, herbicides (weed killers), insecticides, kerosene, lighter fluid, pesticides (bug/rodent killers).

Watch for this year’s SWACO Hazardous Waste Drop Off for our community or visit  www.swaco.org for their other community collection events where people can drop off their hazardous waste for proper disposal.

Batteries

Car batteries and dry-cell batteries cannot be put in a dumpster because they can leak chemicals that harm the environment.

Instead, recycle car batteries by returning them to nearly any store that sells car batteries. Similarly, drop off old dry-cell batteries, like lithium, AA, and AAA, in designated bins commonly found in stores.
