Aggregation (Gas & Electric): Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC)
SOPEC Aggregation and Energy Services Overview
SOPEC (Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council) is a council of governments that operates as a shared energy office, delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions throughout Ohio. With a strong focus on community engagement and environmental responsibility, SOPEC leads a variety of green energy initiatives—including electric aggregation, expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure, solar energy assessments, grant writing assistance, and more.
If you're not currently enrolled in the electric aggregation program and would like to join, you can call SOPEC’s supplier, AEP Energy, at 1-877-648-1937.
Following voter approval in November 2024, the Blendon Township Trustees entered into a contract with SOPEC to implement an opt-out aggregation program for both electric and natural gas services. This allowed the Township to leverage the collective buying power of residents and businesses to secure more competitive utility rates. All eligible households are automatically enrolled but may opt out at any time and choose another provider.
Opt-Out and Contact Information
To opt out of the aggregation program or stop receiving future aggregation mailings, contact AEP Energy, at 1-877-648-1937.
For electric aggregation only, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) offers a “Do Not Aggregate” list for residents who prefer not to receive aggregation mailings. You can also visit the PUCO and the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) websites to explore utility provider options and access the “Apples to Apples” comparison tool.
- PUCO: Ensures safe, reliable, and fairly priced public utility services for Ohio residents.
- OCC: Advocates for residential consumers and provides education on utility-related topics.
