What is Code Compliance?
Code Compliance refers to the process of ensuring adherence to established rules, regulations, and standards, often enforced by local authorities, to maintain public safety, health, and well-being within Blendon Township, Franklin County, Ohio (the “Township”).
What Codes does Blendon Township enforce as part of “Code Compliance”?
The Ohio Commercial Building Code, which governs commercial construction to ensure the protection of life, health, property, and general welfare of those within the Township;
The Zoning Code, which regulates the location, size, (such as junk and salvage yards) and use of building and land within the Township;
The Blendon Township Property Maintenance Code which establishes minimum maintenance standards for basic equipment, light, ventilation, heating, sanitation, and fire safety;
The Nuisance Statutes (O.R.C. 505.86, 505.87 & 505.871), which addresses the condition of vacant and blighted properties; junk vehicles; high grass, weeds, and other debris within the Township.
Complaint
When a complaint is received, either by phone, in-person, written or otherwise, the reported violation will be investigated before any official action is taken. If a complaint is received by phone or email, the Code Compliance Office will forward confirmation of receipt of the complaint. Violations may also be discovered by the Township.
Compliance
Code Enforcement is taken very seriously. Once a potential violation is brought to the Township’s attention, a compliance officer will be sent to observe and determine if a violation is present. If no violation is observed, then no further action will be taken. Once the violation is confirmed, the Code Compliance Officer will begin the compliance process that is intended to provide a fair and equitable compliance process.
