NexTrex Recycling Challenge

Support a great local recycling effort

Post Date:02/25/2026 8:23 AM

We are excited that Blendon Township will be helping to support a great local recycling effort happening right here in our township!

A resident in Sunbury Woods shared that Wilder Elementary is participating in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge and for every ton of plastic film they collect, the school receives a bench made from recycled materials. This is such a simple idea with a big impact for our kids and our environment.

We now have a collection bin set up behind the Blendon Township Senior Center (6330 S. Hempstead Rd.), next to the library lockers.

Residents can drop off approved plastic bags and film there anytime: grocery bags, bread bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, newspaper sleeves, and other clean, dry plastic film (see photos for examples).

A few quick reminders:

  • All plastic must be clean and dry
  • No food residue
  • No chip bags, candy wrappers, or frozen food bags

Every bag adds up and together we can help Wilder earn those benches while keeping plastic out of landfills. Thanks for helping make this a true community effort!
