Important Information from Aqua Water:
The US EPA has released new rules relating to lead water pipes since lead has been connected to serious health complications, especially in young children.
None of Aqua’s water mains in the area are made of lead, but for premises constructed before lead was banned from plumbing materials in Ohio (1988), some water service lines (the pipe between water mains and buildings) were made of lead. Aqua representatives are working with the USEPA to eliminate all lead service lines in our water system.
They have identified the service line material for most properties in the area. However, the week of August 23rd, Aqua staff will visit properties with unknown service line materials. The representatives will instruct residents to email a photo of their service line or set an appointment for line inspections. Ultimately, Aqua will replace those made of lead or galvanized steel at no direct cost.
Aqua takes steps to prevent lead from leaching into the water they distribute and conduct routine tests to confirm that lead levels remain below actionable levels. Aqua is working with the Ohio EPA and USEPA to eliminate lead lines. Owners of properties where the service line material is already known not to be lead will not receive the information.
